THUNcity / Innenstadt-Genossenschaft Thun (IGT)

What is THUNcity?

  • THUNcity is the lobby and marketing organisation of the retail trade, service providers and restaurants in Thun. With its activities, it specifically promotes the unique catchment area between Bern and the Bernese Oberland all the way to the Valais. More than 250,000 potential customers move through this area.
  • All members of the Board of Directors (self-employed company managers or executives) work for THUNcity without remuneration or expenses.
  • Innenstadt-Genossenschaft Thun (IGT) is the legal name. In communication (written and oral) the name THUNcity is used.
 

What is THUNcity doing?

THUNcity promotes and revitalises the city centre through:

  • Marketing measures to revitalise the city centre
  • Representation of members' interests vis-à-vis authorities and the press on structural and planning issues
  • assumption of coordination tasks
  • Participation in working groups and commissions
 

Diverse marketing measures

  • Die THUNcity-Geschenkkarte bringt direkt Kunden in die Geschäfte
    • The THUNcity gift card brings customers directly into the shops
    • The annual turnover is around CHF 2.2 million (as of 2021).
    • Many companies also use the THUNcity gift cards as employee gifts.
    • THUNcity takes over marketing, handling, collection, printing and production
  • Supra-regional umbrella advertising for the city centre as a shopping destination in various media. Advertisements in daily and weekly newspapers. Competitions on BEO radio, advertisements in "Thun-Magazin".
  • Co-publisher of the Thun magazine with "own" prominently placed "shopping story" in the city centre, where members are also presented
  • Promotion, marketing and implementation (permits etc.) of the two Sunday sales in Thun city centre
  • Organisation and realisation of the Christmas Event on the occasion of the switch-on of the Christmas lights

  • Discounted participation in marketing activities (co-marketing), e.g. in the Thun Magazine (a cooperation between the City of Thun and THUNcity, published 6 times a year with a circulation of over 60,000 copies), Lake Thun Shopping Guide (a cooperation between the City Marketing, TTST and THUNcity), etc.
  • THUNcity coordinates and finances the Christmas lighting throughout Thun city centre. It is also responsible for the maintenance and storage of the same
  • The flag decorations in the Old Town and Bahnhofstrasse are organised and co-financed by THUNcity. (with the support of the city)
  • Support for the two large markets in the old town (Easter and Advent markets)
