From 14 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, the enchanting Christmas tree on Thun's Rathausplatz will delight young and old alike. And with good reason, because this year the beautiful silver fir is impressing visitors with new decorations. It is decorated in a classic, elegant style.
The Christmas tree lights will be on from 6.30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This year's Christmas tree, a 12-metre-high silver fir, is a gift from the municipality of Thun. It comes from a nearby municipal forest. The tree was felled and transported by Stadtgrün Thun and Gafner AG.
The large fir tree was decorated over several days by the team from Schlossgarten kreative Floristik. Margrit Bieri and Franziska Stähli decorated the fir tree with great passion over several days. This year's theme is Santa Claus with the legendary Christmas song ‘Wonderful Dream’. The tree is decorated in red and green with Christmas decorations. Every evening, the tree will glow in warm light and enchant people of all ages.
The tree decorations are very rich
There are 200 green baubles, 150 red baubles, 100 brown baubles, 200 gold baubles, 20 reindeer, 30 Santa Clauses, 45 sprigs of mistletoe, 324 bunches of snow, 1600 red and gold jewellery and 2000 tinsel. In addition, the company Tetra Tech Veranstaltungstechnik AG laid around 3,000 metres of cable and 21,160 LED lights around the fir branches.
Christmas Event
On Friday, 14 November 2025, at 7 p.m. sharp, the moment had arrived: Katharina Ali-Oesch (Deputy Mayor) and Yvonne Schediwy (President of THUNcity) turned the key and the magical Christmas tree on the town hall square lit up in all its glory.
The event started at 4 p.m. Llamas and donkeys to pet caused particular excitement, as did the visit by FC Thun President Andres Gerber and players Jan Eicher and Marc Gutbub, who handed out nuts to fans together with Santa Claus. Mascot ‘Münggu’ was also there, bringing smiles to the faces of young and old alike.
